TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Economic Affairs approved Deputy Minister Chen Chern-chyi’s (陳正祺) resignation on Wednesday.
The ministry said Chen is set to retire on Dec. 31, per CNA. A successor will be chosen following a discussion with the premier and economics minister.
The ministry said that when the Lai administration took office on May 20, Chen had already expressed his intention to retire. His considerations included career planning and a desire to spend time with his family.
Despite the administration’s hope to continue leveraging Chen’s experience in economic affairs, Chen insisted on stepping down.
Chen has a rich background in international trade and economics. He previously served as head of the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore’s Economic Division.
