TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail announced Tuesday that it will add 368 extra trains during the 2025 Lunar New Year period, with reservations opening at midnight Thursday.
The period runs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 3, with 200 extra southbound trains and 168 additional northbound trains. This brings the total to 2,246 train services over 12 days.
Eighteen late-night trains have been scheduled, with all arriving after midnight, the latest by 1 a.m. Two early-morning trains will depart as early as 5:30 a.m.
Passengers using these services are advised to plan their transportation to and from stations in advance.
Each train will have two to eight carriages for unreserved seating. Passengers are advised to check the station's information system for seat availability and use the THSR app to purchase unreserved tickets via Bluetooth.
THSR also reminded passengers they can still use unreserved seating with monthly or multi-ride passes from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2. The validity of these passes will be extended for nine days.
For example, a monthly pass originally valid from Jan. 20 to Feb. 18 will be extended to Feb. 27.
