TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Low temperatures are expected to stay until Monday and make a return after Christmas Day, but New Year’s Eve could be relatively mild, forecasters said Saturday.
Cold surge advisories were in effect for parts of New Taipei and Yilan, with temperatures likely to remain around 10 degrees Celsius. The mercury might also fall to the same level in the counties of Hsinchu and Miaoli, according to the Central Weather Administration.
Saturday also saw a heavy rain advisory for Keelung and the coast of New Taipei, and a strong wind advisory for most of Taiwan’s western coastline with the exception of Kaohsiung, and for Pingtung and Taitung on the east coast.
While the cold air mass was expected to weaken Monday, humidity would increase, leading to more rain and to snow at altitudes above 3,000 meters, per CNA.
Christmas Day, which is not a holiday in Taiwan, would see temperatures recover to 24 C in the north, and 25 C to 26 C in the rest of the country. Another cold mass was expected to influence the weather from December 26 to December 28, but forecasters predicted New Year’s Eve would be relatively warm.
