TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Wei Chuan Dragons said Friday that outfielder Chen Tzu-hao (陳子豪) will be signed on a 10-year contract worth NT$130 million (US$4 million).
It’s the longest deal in Taiwan’s professional baseball history, per UDN. Chen is the second free agent transfer after Chu Yu-Hsien (朱育賢) this season, and the sixth in history, per CNA.
Dragons General Manager Ting Chung-wei (丁仲緯) said the 10-year contract reflects the team's high regard for Chen Tzu-Hao's value and is a testament to their confidence in him.
“During the discussions, we mainly focused on how to ensure long-term cooperation and flexibility in the contract,” he said.
“We identified a need to strengthen our offensive power,” Ting explained. “After internal discussions, we decided on this direction and pursued players in the market who could fill this gap.”
Chen’s contract sets a new record, surpassing the previous NT$92.5 million deal signed by Chang Yu-cheng (張育成) with Fubon Guardians this year.
