TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Germany's largest semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies opened an office in Kaohsiung on Wednesday.
Infineon entered Taiwan in 1999 and has offices in Taipei and Hsinchu. The Kaohsiung office will focus on partnering with Taiwan's IC assembly and testing service suppliers through outsourcing, CNA reported.
Infineon said Taiwan is home to the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, making it a key partner. The company will work with local partners to advance semiconductor technologies, promote low-carbon product development, and explore AI applications, per Yahoo News.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) attended the office ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday. He said Infineon is a leading chip design and manufacturing company and collaborates extensively with TSMC and ASE Technology.
Infineon's office is in Kaohsiung's Southern Semiconductor S Corridor, home to semiconductor corporations such as ASML Holding, Lam Research, and Tokyo Electron. The location is near Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station and TSMC's wafer fab in Nanzih Technology Industrial Park.
Chen said the city government will expedite office space renovation to accommodate more technology companies. He pledged continued government support for the semiconductor industry, including wafer manufacturing and IC design.
