TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei City Market Administration said pak choi, rape, and chili peppers failed food safety inspections during random checks at city markets on Wednesday.
The administration commissions Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation to conduct daily checks and prevent pesticide-tainted produce from entering the market. In November, 134 produce cases exceeded pesticide limits, with 21,000 kilograms destroyed, per CNA.
The administration said Wednesday’s inspection found excessive pesticide residues in rape and chili peppers, while pak choi had pest remains.
In October, the administration also found non-compliant chili peppers, rape, and pak choi, destroying 18,000 kg.
The corporation has banned the batch and prohibited the supplier from selling other similar items that day.
The administration said around 14,000 market produce items are inspected annually. The corporation will intensify inspections and report the results to the relevant government agencies, the administration added.
