TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) encouraged individuals aged 30 and above to register for next year’s World Masters Games before Feb. 17.
The World Masters Games, held every four years, will take place in Greater Taipei from May 17-30. The competition includes 35 events, such as track and field, aquatics, and badminton, with 27,000 athletes from 134 countries registered.
The registration fee is NT$3,600 (US$114.29) for domestic athletes and NT$7,500 for foreign athletes. Each athlete can participate in up to seven events.
Hou attended the press conference on Monday for the World Masters Games-themed train launch and rode with the event mascot, “Strong.” A train will run on the Danhai Light Rail, Circular Line, Bannan Line, and Airport MRT to raise awareness of the event, per the New Taipei City Government's press release.
New Taipei Sports Department said that Athens Olympic archery silver medalist Chen Shih-yuan (陳詩園) would compete in the event. Hou hopes to promote nationwide sports participation through this sports event.
Until Feb. 12, passengers on the themed train can get limited Strong postcards at Hongshulin and Fisherman's Wharf Stations.
