TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Investigators of former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je's (柯文哲) alleged corruption scandals questioned several of his former aides on Tuesday.
Media reports hinted that prosecutors might reveal indictments before the end of the week. The ex-mayor has been detained since Sept. 5 while facing questions about political donations.
In the latest round of interrogations, investigators called in six witnesses. The list included Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) legislative office manager Vicky Chen (陳智菡), Taipei City Councilor Huang Ching-ying (黃瀞瑩), TPP Deputy Secretary-General Osmar Hsu (許甫), TPP Spokesperson Wu Yi-hsuan (吳怡萱), a party worker, and an official at Muko Public Relations Marketing Ltd.
The investigators sought more information about the flow of funds and financial donations surrounding Ko and the TPP, the Liberty Times reported. The focus of Tuesday’s investigation was the alleged false reporting of political donations and irregular personnel shifts between Ko and Muko's offices.
In a reaction to the latest developments, the TPP accused prosecutors of scare tactics to silence the party by targeting its spokespersons and senior officials, per CNA.
The allegations against Muko surfaced during the Core Pacific City corruption scandal probe. The project developer allegedly paid bribes to the city government to expand its floor area ratio.
In addition to Ko, Core Pacific Chair Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京), Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying (應曉薇), and former Deputy Mayor Pong Cheng-sheng (彭振聲), have been detained in connection with the case.
