TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s Aomori Governor Miyashita Soichiro and Mutsu Mayor Yamamoto Tomoya on Monday to cultivate industry cooperation.
Miyashita and Yamamoto led a delegation to Kaohsiung to promote cooperation in the agriculture, fishery, and tourism industries and foster bilateral partnerships, per CNA.
Chen said Kaohsiung and Aomori have abundant agricultural and fishery resources, including top squid catches. Chen added that Aomori apples are highly favored by Taiwanese, per Yahoo News.
Miyashita said this was his first visit to Kaohsiung in eight years, and he was impressed by the city’s economic development. He said Kaohsiung preserves historical heritage while developing the technology industry.
Miyashita added that annually around 80,000 to 100,000 Taiwanese tourists visit Aomori. He thanked Taiwanese for substantial purchases of Mutsu’s scallops this year.
After the visit, Miyashita promoted Aomori apples at Kaohsiung's chain retailers and shopping malls.
