TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation led by Shanghai Deputy Mayor Hua Yuan (華源) will arrive in Taiwan on Monday to participate in the 15th Taipei-Shanghai City Forum on Tuesday.
The forum is organized by the Taipei City Government and will focus on smart governance. Taipei Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-hua (林奕華) and Hua will deliver opening remarks and the two sides will sign two MOUs on smart medical cooperation and red panada conservation, CNA reported.
The Shanghai delegation will visit the Guang Ci Boai Park in Xinyi District and the Taipei Dome. The Chinese delegation is expected to leave on Tuesday afternoon.
To ensure the group’s safety, the Taipei City Police Department is deploying 235 personnel and an eight-member mobile security team.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council on Friday denied entry to Shanghai Taiwan Affairs Office Director Jin Mei (金梅), citing China's "22 Guidelines" as a threat to cross-strait relations. The MAC allowed the forum to proceed but warned that it would postpone the event if China ramped up threats toward Taiwan in the days leading up to it.
