TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The first batch of Abrams tanks arrived in Taiwan over the weekend and were delivered to an Army training facility on Monday.
The first 38 M1A2T Abrams tanks out of 108 purchased from the US arrived in the Port of Taipei in New Taipei's Bali District on Sunday, per CNA. Between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Monday, the tanks were transported on civilian trailers via the West Coast Expressway to the Armored Training Command in Hsinchu County's Hukou Township.
Police provided traffic control along the route, and military police vehicles followed the convoy.
In addition to the tanks, Taiwan has also purchased 14 M88A2 recovery vehicles, 16 M1070A1 transporters, and 16 M1000 trailers. Military personnel at the training site said four M88A2 recovery vehicles also arrived at the Armored Training Command to support subsequent training operations.
