TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan is donating 4 million euros (NT$136.59 million, US$4.2 million) for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s insurance sector, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.
The agreement was signed in Taipei on Dec. 2 by Camilla Otto of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development and by Jonathan Sun (孫儉元), head of the Department of International Organizations at MOFA. The funds will be transferred from the Taiwan Business-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund to the Ukraine Recovery and Reconstruction Guarantee Facility, an initiative of the EBRD.
At the Dec. 12 founding meeting of the URGF in London, Taiwan envoy Vincent Yao (姚金祥) expressed the country’s steadfast support for Ukraine, MOFA said. He said Taiwan hoped to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine in cooperation with democratic allies sharing the same beliefs.
The URGF aims to raise 110 million euros to help improve the confidence of international investors in the war-stricken East European country. In addition to Taiwan, the EU, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and Norway have also pledged funds for the effort.
