TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Central University Space Science and Engineering Department students won first place in the preliminary round of the ninth Mission Idea Contest (PreMIC9) held in South Africa.
The contest, founded in 2010 by the University Space Engineering Consortium, provides a platform for space enthusiasts to showcase their innovative ideas. The event aims to open doors to space exploration and development.
A team of six students from the university, Chang Yi-yu (張以侑), Tien Yu-hsiu (田宇修), Yu Shao-yu (尤紹宇), Lung Chieh (龍潔), Tsai Chih-chun (蔡志群), and Chen Jui-ting (陳睿廷), took part in the competition with a project titled “Lunar Ionosphere Characterization and GNSS Evaluation through Multi-Satellite Occultation (LIGEMO),” per CNA.
According to National Central University Space Science and Engineering Department Chair Chang Chi-wei (張起維), the team designed an orbit suited for the lunar gravity environment. Chang said that Chang and Tien traveled to South Africa to present the project in English.
Chang added the team qualified for the official competition in Tokyo next year.
