TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The first glimpse of sunrise in the new year can be caught at 6:35 a.m. from Taiwan’s most southern tip in Kenting, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The first sunrise of 2025 in Taiwan proper will occur at 6:35 a.m. at Long Keng Ecological Reserve in Kenting, Pingtung, per the CWA. Including outlying islands, the first sunrise in Taiwan on New Year's Day will be at 6:34 a.m. on Orchid Island.
In north Taiwan, the sunrise over Keelung can be best viewed along the Tiaoshi (跳石) coast in New Taipei's Jinshan District. For the sunrise over Guishan Island, the best viewing spot is Waiao Beach in Yilan's Toucheng Township, the CWA said.
In south Taiwan, the sunrise over Green Island can be enjoyed from Taitung’s Jialulan Recreation Area, north of Fugang Fishing Harbor. To view the sunrise on Orchid Island, watchers should go to Dawu Coast Park.
Meanwhile, the last sunset of the year will occur at 5:25 p.m. at Qigu Lagoon off Tainan’s coast. On Taiwan's outlying islands, the last sunset will happen at 5:30 p.m. on Lieyu Island in Kinmen.
