TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan Embassy in Guatemala held an event Wednesday celebrating the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries at the Guatemalan foreign ministry.
Taiwan Ambassador Vivia Chun-Fei Chang (張俊菲) said the 90th anniversary of diplomatic ties symbolizes profound friendship and a shared vision. Taiwan is grateful for Guatemala's support in international organizations such as the World Health Organization and the UN, she said.
Guatemala Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez said the free trade agreement and other deals signed in the past have laid a foundation for bilateral commercial cooperation, expanded trade exchanges, and diversified Guatemalan exports, CNA reported. He also said they established a close strategic partnership between Taiwan and Guatemala.
Martinez thanked Taiwan for its support in education, healthcare, and rural development. He described Taiwan as a commercial partner and a strategic investor contributing to Guatemala's growth.
The foreign minister said 90 years of diplomatic relations represent historical ties as well as the start of a comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership. He pledged Guatemala’s continued support for Taiwan.
Taiwan and Guatemala established diplomatic ties in 1934.
