TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taitung County Farmers’ Association launched atemoya snacks Wednesday to boost business.
According to the agriculture ministry, Taiwan's atemoyas mainly grow in central and eastern regions from December to April. The fruit is rich in protein, vitamin C, and vitamins B1 and B2.
The association told CNA that over 90% of Taitung's atemoyas were previously exported to China. China halted imports in 2021 because they claimed pest issues with shipments resuming in 2023.
Taitung County Farmers’ Association Chair Yang Chao-hsin (楊招信) said atemoyas were mostly purchased for holiday gifting and fresh consumption. The association is partnering with local farmers and food manufacturers to develop atemoya-based products such as beverages, ice cream, dried atemoya, and gummies to explore new markets.
Yang said processed fruits address the seasonal availability issue and appeal to young consumers. According to the Cabinet, more processed atemoya products are set to be unveiled.
