TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) led a delegation of officials and agricultural merchants to participate in the Tokyo Ikebana International Fair on Tuesday (Dec 10).
According to the city government, the fair was held at the Royal Park Hotel Tokyo, featuring a floral art showcase and a marketplace selling produce worldwide. Japanese prime minister’s wife, Ishiba Yoshiko, 37 ambassadors, and 31 ikebana schools attended, per CNA.
More than 20 countries, including Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, participated, Huang said. “Tainan is the only Taiwanese city invited to join.”
The city government said Tainan promoted agricultural products, including pomelos, mangoes, pineapples, buckwheat, and flowers at the exhibition. Tainan's booth featured moth orchids and anthuriums, in a Taiwanese style.
Huang gifted Ishiba a moth orchid with petals featuring the Japanese flag and Tainan city seal, symbolizing close bilateral relations.
After the event, Huang visited large Japanese retail chains to promote the city's agricultural products.
