TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Sunbird, a new Mediterranean vegetarian restaurant in Taipei, has just come up with the biggest madeleine in Taiwan.
Inspired by the energy of birds, the restaurant has transformed the essence of Mediterranean cuisine into a contemporary casual dining experience. It showcases dishes that push the boundaries of Taipei's vegetarian culinary scene.
One of Sunbird's most striking features is its signature, Taiwan-exclusive XXXL madeleine. Infused with the unique flavor of Taiwanese oolong tea, this pastry completely reimagines the classic French sponge cake.
Boasting a crispy exterior and a soft, moist interior, it captures the essence of a classic madeleine but in a show-stopping size, making it the restaurant's most eye-catching offering.
Sunbird also offers a madeleine gift box priced at NT$1,080 (US$33). It features one oversized madeleine alongside three regular-sized ones and is available online.
As for the savory dishes on offer at the eatery, they boast a blend of flavors and textures, showcasing the versatility of vegetarian cuisine. The Balinese jamu, made with turmeric and ginger, perfectly replicates the layered flavors of a traditional Indonesian beverage.
The potato latkes, stacked and fried to perfection, are paired with a modern twist – a dollop of curry-flavored Greek yogurt. For the main course, the pugliese pasta demonstrates the endless possibilities of vegetarian cuisine by creatively combining bean curd skin and Brussel sprouts.
The restaurant's design caters to both social and private dining. A large communal table seats up to 10 people, perfect for gatherings, while the bar seats offer a front-row view of the chefs' culinary artistry.
An outdoor patio adorned with lush greenery adds a touch of nature to the dining experience.
