TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Cynthia Wu (吳欣盈), the vice presidential candidate for the Taiwan People's Party in this year’s election, was questioned by prosecutors on Thursday about corruption allegations involving her former running mate Ko Wen-je (柯文哲).
The TPP said in a statement that Wu cooperated with the investigation to perform her civic duty and it respected the decision, per CNA.
Wu was questioned about an alleged corruption scheme involving Ko, his former campaign chair Lee Wen-tsung (李文宗), and others. Ko has been detained since September awaiting the results of an investigation into the allegations.
Ko picked Wu as his running mate in the lead-up to the January presidential election in November 2023. The pair received the third most votes for the presidency.
Wu’s family owns the Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and she served as the company’s deputy CEO before first running as a TPP candidate in legislative elections in 2020.
