TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The visiting UN ambassador delegation has reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for Taiwan’s inclusion in the UN system during a meeting with Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜).
Palau UN Ambassador Ilana Seid, speaking on behalf of the group Thursday, highlighted the injustice of Taiwan’s exclusion, particularly given this year’s theme, “Leave No One Behind,” per CNA.
Seid explained that the visit aims to deepen an understanding of Taiwan and its policies, particularly in healthcare and national defense. She said that many of Taiwan's policies benefit its citizens and serve as valuable lessons for smaller nations like Palau.
Seid thanked Taiwan for its longstanding friendship with diplomatic allies and pledged to continue supporting Taiwan on the international stage, including in the UN, the World Health Organization, and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Han acknowledged Taiwan's challenge to secure international space and appreciated efforts from countries to speak up for the nation. He also hoped the warm-hearted spirit of the Taiwanese would help more countries and individuals recognize Taiwan as a friendly and welcoming country.
The UN delegation arrived on Monday and includes, Ambassador Menissa Rambally of Saint Lucia, Ambassador Tapugao Falefou of Tuvalu, and Ambassador Mutryce Williams of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The trip comes as Taiwan is countering China’s misinterpretation of UN General Resolution 2758, which only addresses UN representation and not Taiwan’s sovereign status.
