TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s semiconductor shipments surpassed South Korea’s in Q3, becoming the second largest exporter, Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) reported Monday (Dec. 2).
According to a press release, global semiconductor billings increased to NT$985 billion (US$30.38 billion) in Q3. SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha said semiconductor growth was being driven by AI and mature technologies.
“The growth in equipment investments was spread across multiple regions seeking to bolster their chipmaking ecosystems, with North America posting the largest year-over-year gain while China continues to lead in spending,” he added.
China’s semiconductor equipment shipments were the highest at US$12.93 billion, with a quarterly increase of 6% and an annual growth of 17%, per CNA. Taiwan followed with shipments worth US$4.69 billion, a quarterly increase of 20% and an annual growth of 25%.
South Korea’s shipments were US$4.52 billion, with an annual growth of 17%. Japan’s shipments were US$1.74 billion, a quarterly increase of 8% and an annual decrease of 3%.
