TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Electronics manufacturer Tokyo Electron launched its new operations center in Tainan on Tuesday (Dec. 3).
The Taiwan Operations Center is six floors tall, covering an area of approximately 35,000 square meters, and can accommodate over 1,000 employees, per Liberty Times. The facility features a tech lab, a repair center, and a solar power system.
Tokyo Electron (TEL) Taiwan President Roger Chang (張天豪) at the launch event said the center is aimed at helping Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and other clients with chip research, per Nikkei Asia.
“Here we will do chip equipment overhaul, repair, research and development,” he said. “This is very important to increase efficiency and reduce cost.”
Chang explained that TEL’s semiconductor equipment covers the four most important areas of semiconductor production: thin films, etching, coating and developing, and chip cleaning, per CNA. The company’s coating and developing machines have a global market share of nearly 100%, he added.
In late November, TEL said it would invest NT$325 billion (US$10 billion) to recruit 10,000 workers globally. It has more than 1,800 employees in Taiwan and plans to hire more.
