TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Agriculture said Friday (Nov. 29) that the Singapore Food Agency has approved the importation of fresh pork from Taiwan’s Chia Shan Foods Corporation following an online inspection of the company's facility.
The ministry described the approval as a success in its efforts to promote Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points standards and animal disease prevention measures. According to the ministry, 11 pig processing facilities and 17 poultry processing plants in Taiwan have now achieved HACCP certification for slaughterhouses.
The ministry said this development not only enhances the international reputation of Taiwan’s products but also improves the quality of products for domestic consumption.
Additionally, the ministry confirmed it has applied to the World Organisation for Animal Health for certification of Taiwan as a disease-free zone for three major pig-related diseases: swine fever, African swine fever, and foot-and-mouth disease. The ministry expects certification from the organization to confirm this by May.
