TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中) lauded Taiwan’s contributions to Ukraine aid at a recent press conference in Slovakia.
Wu pointed out that since February 2022, Taiwan has raised NT$930 million (US$28.57 million) through public donations for Ukraine, CNA reported. It also collaborated with the Slovakia government to donate NT$162.77 million to Ukrainian refugees and delivered over 350 tons of humanitarian aid to the war-torn country.
Wu said these efforts underscore Taiwan's commitment to defending global democracy, freedom, and human rights. Taiwan will continue to support efforts to assist Ukraine, he added.
The deputy foreign minister said Taiwan deepened its partnership with Slovakia by working with two Slovakia organizations, the Open Society Foundation and the Pontis Foundation. The Taiwan government donated NT162.77 million to rebuild medical and education facilities in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region.
Fedor Blascak, director of the Open Society Foundation, and Michal Kissa, director of the Pontis Foundation, thanked Taiwan’s generous contributions. They explained that this joint initiative has implemented 51 aid projects for Ukraine, which the Slovakia government thoroughly reviewed.
