TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of National Defense (MND) invited the media on Tuesday (Nov. 19) to witness training exercises by the 202nd Military Police Command's Quick Response Company, which utilizes heavyweight motorcycles.
The company is tasked with serving in battlefield reconnaissance, anti-aircraft landing, special attacks, counter-assault, and other combat missions. It initially used the Yamaha Royal Star 1,300cc heavyweight motorcycles for missions though it recently upgraded to the Indian Challenger 1,768cc motorcycle, per CNA.
With 65 new motorcycles, the MND said it can better provide battlefield reinforcements and enhance reconnaissance. The MND demonstrated motorcycle formation exercises such as split formation, interlocking formation, and other skilled driving maneuvers.

Compared to the Yamaha Royal Star, the Indian Challenger is shorter, with a total length of 2.5 meters, a width of 1 meter, and a height of 1.42 meters. The Indian Challenger is also relatively light at 361 kilograms.
The Indian Challenger has a V-twin water-cooled engine with an electronic fuel injection system. It has 122 horsepower with a maximum range of 370 kilometers.
The motorcycle is also equipped with a 3-stage electronic control system with three modes: rain, standard, and sports. Each setting adjusts the power output according to the environment.

The Indian Challenger also comes with two 6.5-inch horns with an output of 100 watts and warning lights installed on the front and rear. The military police have also purchased camouflage vehicle covers to lower the motorcycle's visibility.
The company was originally responsible for leading motorcades and accompanying high-profile visitors. It faced disbandment in 2012 before being reorganized as the Quick Response Company to service the greater Taipei area.
