TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) praised the ties between Taiwan and Latin America on Monday (Nov. 18).
In a meeting with Latin American lawmakers, led by Paraguayan Congresswoman Rocio Vallejo, Chiang hoped that the lawmakers would share their experiences in Taiwan back home and highlight the nation’s advancements in various sectors, per CNA. He also underscored the potential for deeper collaboration between Taiwan and Latin American countries, including enhanced parliamentary diplomacy.
Chiang said Latin America and Taiwan share many areas for collaboration, such as trade, technology, and education.
Vallejo remarked that Taiwan is a wonderful country with exceptional people. She noted their visit has deepened their understanding of Taiwan, including its shared advocacy of human rights and democracy.
Vallejo pledged to share the insights gained in Taiwan, particularly its success in national development. She also hoped for continued cooperation with Taiwan.
Chiang recently returned from a trip to the US and France. He met with US representatives in Florida to exchange views and gain insight into local perspectives on the recent election and its potential impacts on Taiwan.
In France, he led a legislative delegation to visit the French Senate. The group discussed international participation and disinformation with French lawmakers. They also explored further bilateral cooperation opportunities.
The deputy speaker said the Legislative Yuan can build more international friendships through parliamentary diplomacy and continue to promote Taiwan globally.
