TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) in Hualien will launch its inaugural on-campus night market on Tuesday (Nov. 19).
The university is located in Shoufeng Township. The event, which will run until Dec. 17, aims to revitalize the local night market scene and offer students and residents a more convenient dining experience, according to NDHU.
The night market will be held every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the pedestrian walkway in front of the Student Activity Center. It will feature a range of food stalls, including bubble tea, steak, stinky tofu, grilled meats, and stuffed buns.
Meanwhile, the Shoufeng Night Market, a 10-minute drive from the university, is only open on Wednesdays. This poses a significant inconvenience for students who do not have personal vehicles, an NDHU graduate pointed out.
Thirty vendors from Hualien night markets have agreed to participate. To prioritize food safety, vendors must provide the necessary documentation, including test results, food source information, and water quality test results for beverage vendors, per UDN.
In addition to food offerings, student clubs are invited to offer performances. The university is also encouraging student clubs and faculty to participate by setting up stalls selling food, handicrafts, and creative works.
If the night market is well-received by students, the university plans to make it a recurring event.
