TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxlink inaugurated its first supercomputing center in Tucheng, New Taipei on Thursday (Nov. 14).
Foxlink said it invested NT$2 billion (US$61.4 million ) to build Ubilink, which is equipped with 128 Nvidia H100 servers, achieving a computing power of 45.82 petaflops (PFLOPs), per CNA. This makes it the leading AI computing center in Taiwan, it said.
Foxlink added that Ubilink, along with Taiwania 2, Taiwania 3, Forerunner 1, and Taipei-1, constitute Taiwan’s five major computing power centers, a total of 82.95 PFLOPs. Ubilink alone accounts for 55% of this total computing power, per Anue.
Foxlink Chair Gou Tai-chiang (郭台強) said although Ubilink is the top AI computing center in Taiwan, its scale is small given AI’s potential applications. The initial investment for phase one is NT$2 billion, and once fully operational, it is estimated to generate NT$4 billion annually, he explained.
Gou said the first phase of the supercomputing center already has several major clients testing the supercomputer's capabilities. For example, clients from the biomedical sector intend to use it for drug development and smart healthcare.
Planning for the second phase is already underway, with preparations for site and power arrangements in place, Gou said.
