TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) highlighted the potential for more research and technical cooperation between Taiwan and Colorado on Wednesday (Nov. 13).
In a meeting with Colorado Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera, Hsiao said she witnessed firsthand the ongoing bilateral collaboration when she visited the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Mesa Lab in Colorado. Here she saw a prototype of Taiwan’s FORMOSAT satellite.
The vice president praised Colorado’s expertise in satellite and space-related industries and stressed the need to understand Earth’s atmospheric changes, per the Presidential Office. Addressing climate challenges is also crucial for Taiwan, which has faced multiple typhoons this year, she said.
Hsiao said that both sides could work together to research the atmosphere, improve weather forecasting, and potentially extend cooperation into areas like resilient communications.
She also mentioned that space technology is a priority in national policy under President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) administration and looked forward to expanding partnerships with Colorado in other areas, including agriculture.
