TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake occurred in east Taiwan at 10:38 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 14), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
As of publication, no injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to gauge the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Hualien, while an intensity level of 3 was recorded in Nantou County, Changhua County, Yilan County, Yunlin County, and Chiayi County. An intensity level of 2 was measured in Taichung, Taitung County, Miaoli County, Hsinchu County, Chiayi, and Tainan.
An intensity level of 1 was reported in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Kaohsiung, New Taipei, and Pingtung County.
The CWA said its epicenter was 9.8 km south of Hualien County Hall with a 30.5 km focal depth.
