TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a sea warning for Typhoon Usagi on Thursday (Nov. 14) and its radius is expected to make landfall in southeast Taiwan on Friday morning.
At 8:30 a.m., the CWA said Usagi was 630 km southeast of Eluanbi moving northwest at 26 kph with maximum sustained winds of 162 kph and gusts of up to 198 kph. It said the east, southeast, and southwestern coasts, Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu, Orchid Island, and Green Island could see three to six meters waves on Thursday and strong winds along Keelung's north coast, Matsu, and Hengchun Peninsula.
From Thursday night to Friday morning, the CWA said the Hengchun Peninsula and Orchid Island could see 62-88 kph winds.
CWA meteorologist Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said weather on Thursday will be stable across most of the country except for scattered showers in the east and the Hengchun Peninsula. On Friday, Wu forecasts rain in the east, southern mountains, Taitung, Hualien, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
On Saturday, Wu said heavy rain is likely along the north coast of Keelung, Yilan, and mountainous areas of Greater Taipei. On Sunday, a northeast monsoon will bring rain to the north, northeast, and east, potentially intensified by Usagi's outer circulation if it follows a path closer to Taiwan.
