TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Cybersecurity firm Check Point said Tuesday (Nov. 12) that Taiwan experienced 4,127 cyberattacks on average per week in Q3, the most in the Asia-Pacific region.
Statistics from the company’s threat intelligence unit, Check Point Research, showed the three most targeted sectors in Taiwan were hardware suppliers, government and military institutions, and the manufacturing industry, per CNA. These sectors experienced average weekly attacks of 7,046, 5,357, and 4,175, respectively.
Globally, the education and research sector was the most targeted, with an average of 3,828 weekly attacks, followed by government and military institutions at 2,553, and healthcare at 2,434.
Africa experienced the highest number of cyberattacks in Q3, with an average of 3,370 weekly attacks, a 90% year-on-year increase. Europe and Latin America also saw significant increases.
Additionally, the top five brands most frequently used in phishing attacks during Q3 were Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
