TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND) said Tuesday (Nov. 12) that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) is holding live-fire drills along China's southeastern coast.
The MND said the PLA's Eastern Theater Command designated “several restricted areas and temporary no-sail zones" in waters off Zhejiang and Fujian for the exercises.
The ministry also announced that since 8:50 a.m., 20 PLA aircraft, including Shenyang J-11 jet fighters, Shaanxi Y-8 aircraft, and drones were tracked heading out to sea with 13 crossing the Taiwan Strait median line and entering Taiwan's northern, central, and southwestern air defense identification zone (ADIZ).
The MND said the Chinese aircraft carried out joint combat readiness patrols with PLA naval vessels. The MND monitored the situation and sent aircraft and naval vessels and deployed land-based air defense missile systems in response.
