TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A businessperson from Changhua will donate 60 upgraded emergency vehicles to Ukraine, reports said Saturday (Nov. 9).
Pai Tsan-jung (白璨榮) previously made three similar donations totaling 140 vehicles, per CNA. The ambulances, firetrucks, and pickup trucks were used by organizations in Taiwan, but Pai had them repaired, refurbished, and upgraded so they could still function.
While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), fire departments, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and Taiwan Power Company reportedly helped find the vehicles, Pai used his own money to fund their refurbishment. He also paid for their transportation to Ukraine.
Pai thanked the staff at his company in Shengang Township for making more than 100,000 phone calls over the last year on behalf of this campaign. He predicts the current batch of 60 vehicles will be ready to be shipped within 10 days.
According to Pai, he was not a person who liked hearing people say “thank you,” and this project was just something he had to do. MOFA officials praised him for showing that “Taiwan can help” was more than just a slogan but a consensus among the people.
