TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Yinxing (銀杏) and a northeast monsoon could bring rain to the north and east on Thursday and Friday (Nov. 7-8).
At 5 a.m., the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Yinxing was 540 km southeast of Eluanbi moving west-northwest at 10 kph with maximum sustained winds of 162 kph and gusts of up to 198 kph. WeatherRisk Director Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) said Yinxing would enter the South China Sea on Saturday and weaken to a tropical depression by Sunday.
Chia said Keelung's northern coast, Greater Taipei mountainous areas, Yilan, and Hualien could see heavy rain by Thursday night. The northeast could experience torrential rain, with rainfall expected to continue until early Saturday morning.
The meteorologist cautioned Yinxing is causing strong winds and large waves along the northern coast of Keelung, the east coast, the Hengchun Peninsula, Green Island, and Orchid Island.
The north and east are expected to see temperatures between 19 and 24 C on Thursday, while central and southern regions will range from 18 to 27 C.
On Sunday, Yilan and the northern coast are expected to see showers, while other areas will have partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Highs will reach 27 to 28 C in the north and 29 to 31 C in central and southern regions.
