TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred in east Taiwan at 1:19 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 7), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
As of publication, no injuries or damage from the earthquake were reported. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to gauge the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Hualien and Taitung, while an intensity level of 3 was recorded in Chiayi County, Taichung, Yunlin County, Changhua County, and Chiayi.
Yilan County, Kaohsiung, Tainan, Miaoli County, and Hsinchu County reported an intensity level of 2, while Taoyuan, Pingtung County, Hsinchu, New Taipei, and Penghu measured an intensity level of 1.
The CWA said its epicenter was 52.2 km south of Hualien County Hall with a 29.3 km focal depth.
