TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — There is no change in visa-free travel for Taiwanese visiting Thailand, the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (TTEO) clarified on Wednesday (Nov. 6).
The Thai government announced in May that travelers from 93 countries, including Taiwan, would be granted visa-free entry for up to 60 days, CNA reported. It came into effect on July 15. TTEO said that this policy would remain in place unless the Thai foreign ministry announced a new policy.
This new measure replaced the provisional visa-exemption scheme for Taiwan nationals announced by Thailand on May 7, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Taiwan and Thailand share frequent exchanges in many areas, including trade, tourism, and education, MOFA previously said.
Improving the convenience of business and leisure travel for Taiwan nationals has always been a priority, MOFA said. “Thailand’s extension of visa-free treatment for Taiwan nationals in response to related long-term efforts by Taiwan will further promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries,” it added.
The ministry reminded Taiwanese traveling to Thailand to follow local laws and be aware of their safety.
