TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Yinxing (銀杏) could bring rain to the north and east by the weekend.
As of 2 a.m., the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Typhoon Yinxing (銀杏) was 1,140 km southeast of Eluanbi moving northwest at 26 kph with maximum sustained winds of 118 kph and gusts of up to 154 kph.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said Yinxing will move northwest over the next three days as it approaches waters southeast of Taiwan, before turning west. By the weekend, Wu said it would pass near the northern tip of Luzon Island and enter the South China Sea.
On Tuesday, Wu said a northeast monsoon would bring scattered showers to the north and east, while areas south of Hsinchu would experience clear weather. Wu said the north will turn cool and damp, while central and southern regions will be hot during the day and cool in the mornings and evenings.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the north and east will be mostly cloudy with the chance of showers. He said the north would remain cool with lows of 16 C in the plains, while central and southern regions would see large diurnal temperature fluctuations.
From Friday to Monday, the north and east will see rain. Effects from the typhoon and northeast monsoon could also bring heavy rain to the north coast, Greater Taipei mountains, and northeast. Areas south of Hsinchu will remain clear and stable, with temperatures rising slightly.
