TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan signed an agreement with Lithuania last month to donate US$5 million (NT$159.11 million) to Ukraine’s recovery.
The memorandum of understanding was inked during the Development and Cooperation Conference in Vilnius on Oct. 30. It is the second agreement between the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) and Taiwan, per a CPVA press release.
The funds will go to education, veteran rehabilitation, and safety training in explosives and hazardous materials.
This agreement with Taiwan “is not a single gesture of goodwill; it’s a sustained commitment to impactful collaboration with our partners that we deeply value,” said CPVA Director Lidija Kasubiene.
Taiwan Representative to Lithuania Constance Wang (王雪虹) said the MOU “underscores our belief in the transformative power of education and rehabilitation to rebuild lives and strengthen communities.” She added that Taiwan is committed “to these goals and to our enduring partnership with Lithuania.”
Taiwan has already contributed €4.58 million to Ukraine recovery projects led by Lithuania.
Kindergarten Ruta, a Ukrainian school rebuilt with funds provided by Taiwan and Lithuania, opened in August 2023. The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania donated 1.2 million euros (NT$41.23 million) to the project for purchasing furniture and equipment, landscaping, and a playground.
