TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The second of two sisters who were injured in a February car accident in Changhua also passed away Tuesday (Oct. 29).
An SUV reportedly driven by a 74-year-old man without a driver’s license hit three siblings as they were using a zebra crossing in Shengang on their way home from school on Feb. 22.
A boy, aged 7, escaped with minor injuries, but the elder sister, aged 10, passed away on Sept. 5 after her condition first improved but later deteriorated again.
The younger sister, 8, has been in a deep coma for all of the 250 days since the accident. She passed away Tuesday evening at the Hanming Christian Hospital in Changhua, per CNA.
The grandfather of the children said the family had conducted talks with the driver of the SUV, but an attempt to reach an agreement had failed because the driver said he had no money, CNA reported. He was released on bail of NT$50,000 (US$1,500) in September, and will be tried for negligent homicide, prosecutors said.
