TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a sea warning for Typhoon Kong-rey for the Bashi Channel and areas offshore of southeast Taiwan at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 29).
According to the CWA, Kong-rey is 340 km southeast of Eluanbi moving west-northwest at 12 kph. CWA Forecast Center Director Lin Po-tung (林伯東) said it may reach the upper limit of a moderate typhoon within 24 hours, per CNA.
A land warning could be issued for Kong-rey between 5:30-8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, said Lin. Lin predicted Kong-rey to mainly affect Taiwan from Thursday night to Friday morning and then move into the Taiwan Strait.
Lin said Wednesday, the north and east, with Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Yilan, and Hualien will see increasingly heavy rain. From Thursday to Friday morning, torrential rain is expected in the east, north, south, and central mountainous regions.
