TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Army Commander Chung Shu-ming (鍾樹明) is flying to Hawaii soon to discuss military issues with the United States, reports said Friday (Oct. 25).
The talks will take place during the year-end edition of the bilateral “Lu Wei” or “Powerful Army” program (陸威專案), the Liberty Times reported. Topics are expected to include the frequent incursions by Chinese military aircraft into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), recent Chinese military drills around the country, and the continuation of arms deliveries and improved training by the US
No precise date for the talks was available, but Chung was expected to lead a delegation to Hawaii soon. The “Lu Wei” program covers activities including joint training and maneuvers, exchanges between experts, and mutual assistance.
Observers were watching whether the Army chief would discuss new joint exercises similar to last year’s drills by the 542nd Armor Brigade and the 333rd Combined Arms Battalion in the US, the report said.
