TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei's Department of Education announced on Thursday (Oct. 24) that schools can decide whether to suspend classes due to rain from Tropical Storm Trami.
The Central Weather Administration issued a torrential rain advisory for Taipei on Thursday. The city's education department said schools have been asked to monitor the situation, per CNA.
It said if heavy rain causes traffic jams or flooding, schools can decide on their own whether to suspend classes and notify the department. No Taipei schools have suspended classes yet.
Gezhi Junior High School and Yangmingshan Elementary School in the Yangmingshan area said they will monitor rain and road conditions before deciding whether to suspend classes on Friday.
Rain in Yilan's mountains caused a landslide at the 85k mark of Provincial Highway 7, blocking the road to traffic in Yingshih Village and causing Sih-Ji Elementary School in Datong Township to cancel classes on Thursday, per TVBS.
Taitung County's Orchid Island and Green Island also canceled work and classes at noon on Thursday.
