TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A CPC Corporation fuel truck ran into a China Airlines plane at Taoyuan Airport on Wednesday (Oct. 16), forcing the carrier to switch planes.
On Wednesday morning, the Boeing 737-800 aircraft for Flight CI861 was undergoing ground operations when the CPC fuel hydrant truck hit the right wing, tearing a hole in the flap track fairing, per UDN. Maintenance personnel followed standard procedures to handle and inspect the damage.
China Airlines assigned another place to carry out the flight to Phnom Penh. It said the flight and passengers were not affected by the incident.
The airline plans to seek compensation from CPC once the cause of the accident is determined.
Taoyuan International Airport Corporation said that after receiving a report from CPC, the airport's operations department carried out an investigation. The incident occurred when the fuel truck driver misjudged the aircraft's wing height and accidentally struck the plane with the top of his vehicle.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration was notified for further investigation, and the incident did not affect airport operations or airside facilities.
