TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The ABV Bar and Kitchen Penthouse in Banqiao has teamed up with Czech restaurant Divadlo to launch a limited-time Czech menu that will run from Oct. 16 to Jan. 27.
The menu features eight dishes that highlight the best of traditional Czech cuisine. Each dish is paired with a beer carefully selected by ABV, according to a press release.
Czechs place great importance on shared meals. Family gatherings are often centered around hearty stews and a variety of flavorful meat dishes.
Beer culture is also an integral part of the Czech dining experience. As the country with the highest beer consumption per capita, the history of Czech beer brewing dates back to the Middle Ages. The city of Pilsen, the birthplace of Pilsner beer, is world-renowned for its brewing tradition.
The menu includes pork schnitzel (rizek), Czech beef goulash (Cesky hovezi gulas), Fried Camembert cheese (smazeny syr), and meatloaf with mashed potatoes (hovezi a veprova sekana).
The pork cutlet is coated in egg wash, flour, and breadcrumbs before it is fried to a crispy golden brown and served with French fries. The goulash is a beef stew with an onion and tomato-pepper base, served with handmade steamed dumplings (knedliky), a staple at feasts and family gatherings. Fried Camembert cheese is a straightforward dish that is crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.
The meatloaf is sliced and served with tartar sauce-flavored mashed potatoes. For more information, please visit ABV Penthouse’s website.
