TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck east Taiwan in Hualien at 8:52 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 11).
The quake’s epicenter was 34 kilometers southwest of Hualien County Hall. Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration reported its focal depth was measured at 10.5 km beneath the surface.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
An intensity level of four was registered near the epicenter, with level three reported slightly north of the epicenter and in parts of Nantou County. It registered intensity levels of one and two around most of central and northern Taiwan.
