TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Central Bank Governor Yang Chin-long (楊金龍) received a B+ rating in the latest report released by Global Finance magazine.
According to the Thursday (Oct. 10) report, in the Asia category, besides Yang, Bank of Japan Governor Ueda Kazuo, People's Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng (潘功勝), and Bank of Korea Governor Rhee Chang-yong were also rated B+.
Since taking office in February 2018, Yang has achieved an A grade in the rankings for 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, earning him the title of “4 A Governor,” per CNA.
Meanwhile, three central bank governors received an A+ rating: Denmark, India, and Switzerland. Seven others earned an A rating, including the governors from Brazil, Chile, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. Fifteen governors received an A- rating, including US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Global Finance said the Taiwan central bank shocked markets in March with a policy rate increase from 1.87 to 2%.
“Taiwan’s GDP growth decreased to 1.31% last year due to soft global demand and weak domestic capital investment,” Global Finance explained. “Growth increased by 5.83% in the first half of this year.”
