TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek launched its latest AI chip Dimensity 9400 designed for smartphones on Wednesday (Oct. 9).
The chip is MediaTek’s fourth-generation flagship mobile chip, endowed with advanced AI capabilities, per UDN. The chip uses Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) second-generation 3nm process, reducing power consumption by 40% compared to its predecessor.
Dimensity 9400 adopts a second-generation big-core CPU, including one Arm Cortex-X925 core with a maximum frequency of 3.62GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. Compared to the previous flagship chip Dimensity 9300, Dimensity 9400 offers a 35% increase in single-core performance and a 28% increase in multi-core performance.
Dimensity 9400 integrates MediaTek’s eighth-generation AI processor, NPU 890, providing superior generative AI performance. NPU 890 supports on-device low-rank adaptation (LoRA) training and high-quality image generation, and it is the first to offer developers agentic AI capabilities.
MediaTek Senior Vice President JC Hsu (徐敬全) said this year marks the fifth anniversary of the Dimensity product line, which has rapidly gained 90% market recognition and widespread acclaim. He said smartphones equipped with MediaTek’s latest chips will be launched in a few weeks, reported Nikkei Asia.
