TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Following a similar incident that occurred a few days ago in Tainan, Marine Action Rescue Network (MARN) reported a Coast Guard patrol discovered a pod of four pygmy killer whales stranded on Taichung’s Daan Beach at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 8).
All of the stranded cetaceans were alive at the time of the report. A MARN rescue team comprised of marine experts, municipal workers, and volunteers from the Taiwan Cetacean Society quickly traveled to the location of the cetacean stranding.
Rescuers planned to work throughout the night to ensure the survival of the pygmy killer whales (Feresa attenuate), per CNA.

MARN reminded the public that any sighting of a stranded whale, dolphin, or sea turtle should be immediately reported to the Coast Guard “118” hotline. Concerned citizens should not try to assist stranded animals without professional guidance, as such action can lead to unnecessary harm and pose a risk to personal safety.
When calling in a report, vital information such as the exact location of the sighting, time, description, and condition of the animals can aid in the rescue.
