TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A northeast monsoon brought heavy rain to the north and northeast on Tuesday (Oct. 8) morning, but the weather is expected to be dry on National Day (Oct. 10).
On Tuesday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued an extremely heavy rain advisory for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Yilan County. Yilan County's Nanao Township had 240 mm of rain by 8 a.m., while Taichung's Dongshi District had 92 mm, New Taipei's Ruifang District 80 mm, and Taipei's Nangang District 73 mm.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said a northeast monsoon will affect Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing rain to the north and east. Wu said Tuesday's high will not exceed 27 C in the north.
Central and southern Taiwan will be mostly cloudy to sunny during this time, with occasional showers in mountainous areas. Wu predicted daytime weather would be comfortable with mild heat, with cooler mornings and evenings.
Wu forecasted on National Day most areas will see partly cloudy to sunny skies, with pleasant and comfortable conditions. There will be a slight chance of afternoon showers in the east and mountainous areas.
